About Savannakhet (city)

Savannakhet or Kaysone Phomvihane is a city and province with the same name in south Laos. The name Savannakhet derives from Savanh Nakhone, which means "city of paradise". It is the most visited provincial town of southern Laos. Nature

Fertile valley of the main Laotian waterway - the river Mekong, an abundance of greens and invariable mountains on the horizon.

Infrastructure

The city architecture is quiet unusual - the central part of a city is built up by impressive buildings in the French colonial style (in this area the Catholic cathedral of St. Terezia with an octagonal spike is located), with wide parkways by local measures and set of green zones. And city suburbs, on the contrary, represent a labyrinth of narrow streets and picturesque trading zones with strong Vietnamese character.
The mortar of a temple That Ing Hang which settles down in 16 km from a city is one of the most esteemed Buddhist constructions in the country. During an annual religious holiday in February it is visited by set of pilgrims.
The Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong connects to Mukdahan Province in Thailand.
